The College Fix

The Fund for Vocations appeared in The College Fix, a nonprofit media organization run by veteran journalists and run by student reporters. The article was titled, “Nonprofit helps 13 new applicants pay student loans while considering religious vocation.”

In the article, Associate Editor Mark Lamb interviews our Executive Director, Mary Radford, and our founder, Corey Huber, about the little known cause of our vocations crisis: student loan debt. Corey told The Fix, “Vocations are the lifeblood of the Church, and it is a tragedy to lose even one to a solvable problem like student debt.”

The Fund solves the problem by awarding these grants to young men and women who want to make vows as consecrated Catholic religious, but simply cannot afford to. With our help, they can enter formation without delay or distraction.

In the article, published in 2021, Lamb wrote, “the organization would ideally like to be able to accept every applicant’s request for aid — something it was able to do this year, for the second time in the organization’s history.” Since then, we have come closer than ever to actualizing that goal. In 2023 and 2024, we awarded over 64 grants, which represents enormous growth from the beginning of our organization, when we had to be more selective, awarding only a small handful each year.
